# Angler

> Angler is a macOS app that searches inside the PowerPoint, Excel, Word, PDF, and Markdown files in any folder on your Mac, including folders synced from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and iCloud.

## When to use Angler

Use Angler when the user remembers the chart, table, named range, page, text box, or section they need but not the document filename. It is a good fit for finding a reusable element and returning the real editable object rather than a whole file or an image of it.

Angler searches the folders you choose, local or cloud-synced; it is not itself a cloud drive, a general web search engine, or a hosted document API. It requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later on Apple Silicon (M1 or later).

## How it works

Angler indexes the folders you select (local or cloud-synced), searches the index locally, and shows ranked matches with previews. The same local index can be exposed to Claude, Cursor, and other assistants over the local MCP integration and CLI after installation.

## Agent tools

The verified local MCP surface includes `kg_find`, `kg_get`, `kg_extract`, `kg_render`, `kg_compose`, `kg_documents`, `kg_entities`, `kg_intel`, and `kg_status`. `kg_extract` can return data, Markdown, an image, or a PowerPoint package. There is no hosted `angler.search` API and no agent-facing clipboard tool.

## Availability

Angler is a free private beta. The public download flow is for macOS; invite-code and waitlist behavior may change while the beta expands.

## Privacy

Angler helps users search their own documents on their Mac. Users choose which folders Angler can search; Angler does not save documents anywhere beyond the computer and does not sell data or documents to third parties. The public privacy description intentionally stays at the user-facing level and does not describe internal implementation details.
