Documents are not the right unit

Angler is a Mac app for searching inside the PowerPoint, Excel, Word, PDF, and Markdown files in any folder on your Mac, including folders synced from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and iCloud. It breaks those files into useful elements: a chart on a slide, a named range in a sheet, a text box, a page, a table, a figure, or a Markdown section. You search in plain language, see ranked matches with previews, and can reuse the real object instead of rebuilding it from a screenshot.

The app is designed for the moment when you remember the thing you made but not the filename that contains it. It works across the places work already lives, so a result can point to a slide, sheet, page, or section instead of returning one large file and asking you to hunt again.

Built for people and their agents

After installation, the same local index can be exposed to Claude, Cursor, and other assistants through Angler’s local MCP integration and CLI. The verified local surface includes kg_find, kg_get, kg_extract, kg_render, kg_compose, kg_documents, kg_entities, kg_intel, and kg_status. These tools work with the local index; Angler is not a hosted document API.

Current availability

Angler is a free private beta for macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later on Apple Silicon (M1 or later). The download is signed and notarized by Apple. The public site’s download flow may ask visitors to use an invite code or join the waitlist while the beta expands.
